‘First Year’ explores the complexity and duality of parenthood. Through painting repetitive and mundane activities such as meal times and laundry folding, MeiMei takes you on a journey that is not often depicted in art - the journey of a young baby and a new mother.
This body of work follows the hands of a young child, unintentionally creating mess through her bold touches, eagerly making sense of her surrounding world. Stormy tablecloth, wrinkled garments, crushed fruits, burning candles and firmly-gripped utensils illustrate moments that are both chaotic and lovely, ordinary and beautiful.
